Carolyn Livengood New Millbrae

AMELIA'S ANTICS, a women's boutique consignment store at 311 Broadway in Millbrae that owner Karen Steffey opened in August, will hold a Holiday Boutique Trunk Show from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11.

The bargain boutique sells gently worn, freshly laundered and pressed clothes; accessories; shoes; handbags; scarves; coats; new and used jewelry; and many other items on consignment for an eight- week selling period. It also features an art gallery.

Family-inspired, the store is named after Steffey's mother, who was born in 1937, the year of Amelia Earhart's attempted flight around the world. The store's logo came from one of the doodles her grandmother scribbled on one of the many poems she enjoyed writing while raising 13 children. Steffey's aunt, Molly Sutton of Pacifica, is her part-time assistant.

Steffey, who was born, raised and still resides in South San Francisco, is a graduate of Mercy High School in Burlingame and earned a bachelor of science degree from San Francisco State.

Before opening and operating her own store, Steffey opened stores and purchased merchandise for other storekeepers for 24 years. She said her store's atmosphere is reminiscent of the flea markets she visited during a trip to Paris.

Steffey is active in the community and is an avid supporter and former board member of the American Cancer Society.

"I'm trying to create a community feeling," said Steffey, who is also offering jewelry and fashion shows.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The store is closed Monday. To learn more, call 650-267-4694 or visit .
