FIFTY YEARS AGO

For nearly 50 years the school bell from the old school back of the Strathcona Block was missing. In 1955, it was found in Redvers, Sask. Now it lies at rest in the B.J. Hales Natural Museum at 11th Street and MacTavish, on the first floor of the school board office.
FORTY YEARS AGO

TEN YEARS AGO

Manitoba Hydro plans to build a $180-million generating plant in Brandon, creating hundreds of construction jobs and perhaps solidifying the utility's current workforce in the city. Construction of the natural gas-powered facility, which will be an addition to Hydro's coal-powered plant on Victoria Avenue East, should start next year and be completed in 2002.
