Courtney, a Washington Township resident, said she was recruited by one of the team's players. Her new teammates told her that Team Z was drama-free and they would accept her.

"From the start I knew I could be myself on this team," Courtney said. "It really played a role in how I played because I knew that no matter what happened on the court ... off the court we were always going to be sisters."

Courtney usually plays setter -- the quarterback on the floor -- for Alter. With Team Z, she couldn't play the position because she would only be able to play parttime at the beginning of the season since it coincided with basketball. Since Courtney was a very capable hitter, she was able to position herself as the outside hitter.

Courtney, who is 6-foot-1, was named to the all-tournament team at nationals.

"Everyone was really emotional," Courtney said about winning the championship. "It was the greatest feeling in the world."

Courtney has played volleyball since she was a second-grader. She said that watching her mother and father play recreational volleyball is what got her interested in the sport. Courtney's older brother Robbie, an Alter graduate, plays volleyball for Quincy College.

The support seems to be working. With the exposure she has received from playing with Alter and Team Z, Courtney has received letters from Penn State, Kentucky, Purdue and Illinois.

Alter's girls volleyball team will be losing five seniors from last season's state runner-up squad, according to Courtney. She hopes to transfer what she has gained from playing with Team Z to her high school team.

"I know what it feels like to win and how far you have to go to get there," Courtney said. "The work ethic you have to (have), the focus, the concentration, the time management. It's really hard, but you gotta work at it, if you want to (win)."

Courtney plays volleyball yearround and doesn't worry about getting burned out.

The state's highest court has upheld the convictions of a man implicated in a 2007 Windsor robbery in that left a 65-year-old man tethered to his refrigerator.

Jacob A. McInnis, 25, formerly of China, asked the Maine Supreme Judicial Court to reverse his July 27, 2008, convictions for robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, burglary, kidnapping and theft by unauthorized taking. Oral arguments were held in January in Portland.

Convicted by a Kennebec County Superior Court jury, McInnis was sentenced to almost 20 years behind bars for the July 8, 2007, home invasion.

On Thursday, five justices of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court upheld decisions of the trial judge and found no error by the prosecutor.

McInnis was one of four men convicted of breaking into the home of a mother and son, Shirley and Eugene Varney, to steal money for drugs.

Two of the men went into an adjacent store run by Shirley Varney, determined how late she would be there, then went to the Varneys' home where they bound Eugene Varney to a refrigerator and ransacked the house, prosecutors argued.

McInnis' attorney, Robert C. Andrews, argued last month there were errors in the June 2008 trial: fault in a photo identification by an older witness, denial of a hearing about a search warrant, lay testimony about shoe print matches, and the finding of James McInnis' DNA on pantyhose used to bind Varney, when James testified he never entered the house.

The state supreme court affirmed all the rulings, including one allowing inmates testifying as state's witnesses to testify wearing civilian clothes rather than orange jail uniforms.

"The opinion was less detailed in its analysis than we expected, given the seriousness of the issue over eyewitness identification and the unusual use of DNA evidence in the case. By unusual, I mean that the state chose to discount the implications of DNA evidence that was found at the scene."

He said he had yet to speak to his client about the ruling.

District Attorney Evert Fowle, whose office prosecuted the case, said he was pleased with the state supreme court's ruling.

"This decision did not come as a surprise, because we did not view the appeal as having any merit," Fowle said.

"This is one of most objectionable, violent, predatory assaults we've handed during my tenure," he said. "This crime was shocking. The fact that the final chapter really appears to have been written should come as a relief to people affected."

The co-defendants were sentenced prior to the trial of Jacob McInnis. James McInnis Jr. was sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but eight years suspended and four years' probation; Joshua McInnis was sentenced to 15 years in prison with all but eight years suspended and four years of probation; Mark Miville was sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but 12 years suspended and four years' probation.

If foreign companies including Google encounter difficulties in China, they should seek solution in accordance with the Chinese laws. The Chinese government is willing to help them solve relevant problems, he said.

BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two prime members of an organized crime gang in central China's Hubei Province were executed Wednesday after the Supreme People's Court replica tag heruer watches (SPC) approved their death sentences on Dec. 23 last year.

Liu Lieyong was sentenced to death for the crimes of organizing and leading an organized criminal gang, murder, blackmail, illegal possession of arms and gambling, said a statement from the SPC.

Both were also permanently deprived of their political rights while Liu was fined 100,000 yuan (14,493 U.S. dollars).

The statement did not reveal how the men were executed.

Another 19 people convicted in the case received jail terms from one year with two-year reprieve to suspended death sentences, said the statement.

The crime gang, founded by Liu in the city of Xiantao in Hubei in 2001, had opened casinos, which were illegal in China, illegally forced the transfer of shares in local bus companies and manipulated local cement and food markets.

Liu instructed gang members, including Chen, to murder one person. Chen was also held responsible for another death and nine injuries, the statement said.

The statement did not give details about their victims. According to a report in the Wuhan Morning Post in February 2008, one of the victims was Hu Dongfeng, head of a rival gang in Xiantao. Six of Liu's gang members ambushed him and shot him dead.
